Upelkuchen Updates-finished!

Here is my poorly photographed and so much better in person Alice in Wonderland "eat me" cake.

This actually looks fatter and bulkier than it does in person thanks to my pictures.  It looks more slender in person, far better in every way.  Not sure why my crappy camera acts like this but it does. 

An "Eat Me" cake called Upelkuchen, Roses that disapprove of being placed in pots

DRINK ME —  The potion Alice drinks to shrink is called Pishsolver. The cake she eats to grow is called Upelkuchen.  That cake has haunted me, begging to be made.  I made a tiny one for my first Alice scene, sitting on a little plate.  The cake was close to perfect, after I froze my TV screen on the cake from the movie and carefully sculpted it.  But the simple little cake wasn't enough, I thought how fun it would be to properly put it inside it's glass box, lined in red velvet.  I've always thought I would do it, and so tonight I began constructing the box of wood.  This is a picture of my tiny original cake.  Can you see it on the plate on the tree stump table?  It's a little blurry but you can get the idea.

And now for the roses.  I figured it would be really cool to make one of those grouchy roses, but in a pot instead of the ground so that it could be placed in an inside room for those of you who have inside Alice rooms.  And of course the roses will be highly upset over this :)  Look for them to have a lot to say about this, and they should have some angry little faces because of it as they sit in their pots.

After that I may do a Queen of Hearts cake.  We'll see.   

     

Updates on the graveyard scene 10/17/10

I got the basic scene all but done now I just have to add a gothic black fence partially around the back and half of the sides.  That I'll be working on tonight.  Then I have to sculpt the girl there to pay her respects, clothe her and add the fine details that I want in it.  I think I'll do a rose arrangement on the top of the grave now that I think about it.  That would add more detail to the grave itself. 

Anyone have any suggestions as to what would be nice in it other than the girl standing there?  I'd love to hear feedback!

I still have details to add to the tree, I'm not completely happy with it yet.  Probably more leaves and birds and a nest.  I think I'll try a hanging nest, that would be pretty.

ZOMBIE ELEPHANTS ATTACK!

Ok I really have been working on my graveyard scene but I got sidetracked (like I am so apt to do) by a quickie project for a new friend of mine.  I am a member of the Etsy Darkside Team (search etsydarkteam if you'd like to see their items on Etsy.com-and yes it's all one word you put into the search box) and I joined a swap gift exchange.  My present was a little lack-luster and the girls in the group felt bad for me.  So just randomly out of the blue one of the other members who didn't get me in the swap made me some gifts purely out of the goodness of her heart.  Now something like this cannot go unrewarded by me.  So I looked up what she was into and it said she collected elephants but also liked creepy stuff rather than regular items.  She thought maybe she'd like a zombie elephant, hehe.  She actually said it jokingly because I'm sure she thought she wouldn't actually get one.  I've dicovered that I'm not half bad at sculpting things for a beginner so I thought I'd give it a try.  It's far from perfect but it's not too bad.  So I thought I'd show you guys because it's kind of funny and an item of interest to look at.  I've never seen a zombie elephant before so I figured maybe you all haven't either.  So here goes:

Haha isn't that funny?  He's about 4 1/2 inches tall and the base is 6 inches in diameter. 

He's so freaky!  I hope she likes him though because horror is what she's into :)      

Repurposing vintage decorations

I love revamping old things into something new.  So when I came across a vintage Christmas light I decided to give it a Halloween face-lift.  Here's where I started:

But what I had was exactly the same.

Here's where I decided to do:

I painted some (unused) aquarium rock darker gray.

I repainted the base and candlesticks and started adding on rocks

and a molded piece of polymer clay in the form of a gothic bat.

I changed out the old regular bulbs for way cooler flicker bulbs that look like flames.

I made larger rocks out of tin foil and paper mache.  I made skulls and bones of polymer clay and added metal crosses.

I was going for a Dracula's Castle sort of look, after the vampire hunters had been there :)

Perhaps there should have been more blood, but I didn't want to overdo it.
